Log on using your unique number set by head office. This will take the form of a unique 5 digit number (your payroll number) which you will take with you to any shop.
The till will ask you to enter the float value usually £100. This is set as default so to avoid any errors the cashier can press ENTER. The cashier does not therefore need to enter anything.
To start using the till, Log On.
- Enter your ID number*
- Press SIGN ON
- At the prompt press ENTER to start the day.
- The till will ask you to enter a float value. Unless it’s not £100 simply press SUBTOTAL/ENTER
- At the prompt press ENTER to accept. A receipt will print out.
*IMPORTANT
Any employee’s number should be used by them and them alone. Cashiers should not serve under someone else’s number unless the employee is new and has not been issued with a number yet by Personnel. In this case the employee should use the Store Supervisor’s number as agreed with the Supervisor and Personnel.
Any exception to this maybe deemed as bad practice and action could be taken if any unusual activity occurs regarding sales or refunds or consistent use of others’ employee numbers.
To process a sale:
- Scan items
- Press SUBTOTAL/ENTER
- Enter value of tender e.g. £10.00
- Press CASH
When the tender has the same value as the sale (e.g. Credit Cards)
- Press SUBTOTAL/ENTER
- Press CARD
- Press ENTER (If using the Ocius card machine, follow procedure as outlined on page 16)
When accepting Credit Vouchers (not Gift Vouchers*) Sales should be processed as follows:-
- Scan Items
- Press SUBTOTAL/ENTER
- Press VOUCHER button
- Enter Voucher Value
(If there is still money outstanding complete the sale in the normal way).
- Enter value of tender presented
- Press CASH
N.B No change is given from Vouchers, the till knows this, so change will come up as 0.00. It will also show different values on the Z read which will be covered later.
*Gift Vouchers work as an offer discounted against the sale, for cashing up purposes they have a cash value of zero and are not counted as part of the takings in the normal way.
To process a sale if someone wants to pay in Euros €
- Scan items
- Press SUBTOTAL/ENTER
- Press EURO
The value of the sale will change to equivalent in Euro
- Enter value of euro tender e.g. €10.00
- Press Sub Total Enter
- Change is given in Pounds Stirling (£)
N.B you cannot refund Euros. Refunds can only be done in the home currency. Payments can be split if the customer does not have enough of one currency
For Items that won’t scan.
- Press HOME BARCODE button
- Enter last 6 digits of Julian Graves Barcode
